New to financial planning: tips and ideas

I have seen a lot of threads recently of people all in the same boat. We are about to, or have just graduated university/college, looking towards our first jobs and getting financially organized. While I have learned a lot from this board, I was wondering if anyone had any recomendations of books, or websites that would be a good starting point to being better educated. When looking online I find a lot of American books, but often things like tax, healthcare, etc. don't apply. Any Canadian recomendations? How did you start planning?

I would say your best bet is to save your money, because the books are going to tell you the exact same thing. The best bet is to get a job as quickly as possible even if it isn't in the career of your choice. The reason for this is so that you have money coming in so that you can pay your loans that are going to be coming due relatively soon. Now while you are working this job, making sure you aren't working so much that you can't go and apply for jobs and go on interviews. You should also avoid restricting yourself to your area... branch out, accept jobs much further away than you would normally go. Once you get into your career and get experience with it, start looking for jobs that are closer to where you really want to live and once you find one and get one... take it and you are now in your field, living where you want to live.
